As can be seen in the photo the wax ring slid off center.
Installing wax ring tile floor.
The plastic sleeve will fit snugly into the drain opening.
To do this turn off the water and empty the tank and the bowl and then disconnect the water.
The type with a polyethylene plastic sleeve or flange provides a great seal and fits most standard drains.
At first it seemed to be water tight but after a few flushes i noticed water seeping and pulled it out.
Installation process is simple.
I show the proper application for a toilet wax ring on a finished tiled floor although this applies to any floor where a toilet will sit.
I used two wax seals to set my toilet since the flange is 1 4 below the new tile.
The wax ring should be compressed around 1 2 to 3 4 it s initial height once installed.
If it will compress more consider getting one with a flange to limit wax extrusion into the drainage path.
You have two options for placing the new wax ring.
If it will compress less you need a taller ring.
To install or service the wax ring you have to remove the toilet.
Turn the toilet bowl base upside down and hold it steady.
Remove the newspaper or towels from the drain opening in the floor.
Add the plastic washers first then metal washers and finally the nuts to the closet flange bolts.
Then compress the toilet against the wax ring to make a good watertight seal.
Adjust this measurement by how high or low the floor flange surface is from finished floor.
The benefit to this technique is that you can be sure that the ring is in the proper position when placing the toilet over the flange.
Choose a wax ring of the appropriate size.
Align the holes in the toilet with the closet flange bolts and slowly lower it until the bowl meets the wax ring.
Install the gasket on top of the toilet flange on the floor add spacer rings to match the new floor surface level add the extender add a standard wax ring the set the toilet on top.
Attach the extension ring by driving stainless steel wood screws through the mounting holes into the subfloor through open spaces in the flange.
You can rest the new toilet bowl on its side on a padded surface to protect the floor and the toilet and attach the replacement wax ring to the bottom of the bowl.
Tighten the nuts with a wrench.
Unscrew the bolts holding the toilet.
If the toilet s floor flange height is slightly less than 1 4 inch above the flooring you can use an extra thick wax ring to make up the difference.
